Stories of the Prophets

Enoch (Idris)

Enoch lived on the earth at a time before the great flood of Noah’s time when people had longer life-spans than they do today. Enoch was a descendant of Adam in the seventh generation.

Enoch became a father when he was sixty five. He called his son Methusaleh.  After Methusaleh was born, Enoch listened to God.  Enoch trusted in God, and he tried to live his life in order to please God. He lived in this way for three hundred years. During that time he fathered more sons and daughters.

God was really pleased with Enoch because of his faith, and one day he took him to heaven. He never came back! He did not die but was lifted from the earth to be with God. So nothing is known of his whereabouts now except that he went to be with God.

Before he was taken to heaven, Enoch walked with God and listened to what God said to him. God talks to people who are willing to listen. Enoch listened to God.

The prophet Enoch warned people about disobeying God. They were living self-centred lives. They were full of greed and grumbling, quick to judge, quick to accuse and immoral. Enoch hated these things. Enoch told them that a day was coming when the Lord Himself would come to bring judgement on it all.

Enoch believed what God said to him, and his faith in God is what was pleasing to God.
